A lovely historical visit for Egyptians and non Egyptians. Definitely worth a visit while in Alexandria. It's pretty cheap . The views of the Mediterranean were unreal! The weather is lovely there this time of the year. You can also enjoy a boat ride and buy handmade stuff at reasonable prices. There's an aquarium and a museum inside too.

Initially I thought "who would want to pay for empty ruins of a now empty castle which served it purpose in it's day"...today I have a completely different view of this awesome piece of Qaitbay history. I was walking around the Souq area, no intention of ever going inside, as when my bladder forced me to pay 60egp to enter the gates of the Citadel to use the WC. Since I was inside I decided to have a look around. This is a must-experience. The architecture was deliberately purposeful with detailed thought and perfect planning behind its structure. From the awe-inspiring acoustics of the prayer room to the simple, yet intricate capturing of natural beams of sunlight that bounces off the cream stone walls, every inch of this castle was built for a fit purpose. The overall aura in every room and passage is that of boldness, pride and protection from whatever threats lay beyond it's walls. Inscriptions on the walls are timeless accounts of what each area represented and what it's purpose was...if you read with your heart, you will hear how the walls tell you the story of the birth of the Citadel. Truly an amazing piece of history that should be preserved for all times. Pictures and words can never do justice to an actual experience.

It is one of the most well preserved historic landmarks of Alexandria and Egypt as a whole. A heaven for photographers.

Nice site to visit in Alexandria. Ancient building, restored, but with alot of history. Again the vendors trying to sell you tours, boats and trinkets are everywhere

Very pretty fort. If you're in Alexandria, you must stop there as it's probably the prettiest attraction there. The rest of the city wasn't as nice as expected.
