Fr. Dioscorus Alnaqluny

Monasticisim has been established in this monastery by St. Antonius the Great the father of all monks (251-356). So it is a holy, historical and monumental site, in which the monasticism paused for a while in the midievial due to some historical events. Recently in late ninthy of last century, monasticism has been revived by efforts of his eminens metropolitan anba Abraam bishop of Fayoum and the abbot of the monastery. The Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, in a regular session May 29, 1999 AD has acknowledged the revival of monasticism and assigned it as one of its inhabited monasteries.
