The Imam Hussein Mosque or Jame Sayyidna Husayn is a mosque and mausoleum of Hazrat Imam Husain ibn Ali, originally built in 1154, and then later reconstructed in 1874. The mosque is located in Cairo, Egypt, near the Khan El-Khalili bazaar; near-by the famous Al Azhar Mosque, in an area known as Al-Hussein. It is considered to be one of the holiest Islamic sites in Egypt. It is believed that Hazrat Imam Husain’s head (Ra's Mubarak) is buried on the grounds of the mosque where a mausoleum is situated today and considered to be what is left of the Fatimid architecture in the building.

Really nice place. One of the historic Islamic mosques in cairo. Architecture there is marvelous and the Islamic art is just outstanding. Praying there and feeling the spirituality of the place is surreal, however, the ladies prayers area is relatively small and not always organized. There are plenty of small sellers expect you to buy things from them.

Al Hussain is the middle of the old Islamic Cairo where you can enjoy the scene of old. The mosque itself is very big area and have many entrances. Around it you can enjoy the old style coffee shops and you can buy old style products. Silver products and accessories are very famous and cheap. Just walking around the place makes you very peaceful.
