We visited the mastaba of Mereruka in January 2019. Mereruka was one of the viziers of Pharaoh Teti. We saw wonderful painted and carved low-reliefs inside the mastaba. It’s one of the most beautiful mastaba in in Saqqara.

Mereruka Mastaba Chambered Cairn in Lower Egypt (North) Multi-room Mastaba of powerful Vizier under Pharao Unas of the 5th Dynasty and Teti I of the VI Dynasty, whose daughter he married. It appears to have been used by other members of the familly. The mastaba is just in front of Teti I's Pyramid and abuts that of Kagemni.

Mereruka served during the Sixth Dynasty of Egypt as one of Egypt's most powerful officials at a time when the influence of local state noblemen was increasing in wealth and power. Mereruka held numerous titles along with that of Vizier, which made him the most powerful person in Egypt after the king himself.[1] Some of the other state titles which Mereruka held included 'Inspector of the priests attached to the pyramid of Teti', 'Governor of the palace', 'Chief lector-priest', 'Overseer of the royal record scribes' and 'Director of all the works of the king

It is an amazing site, plenty of hieroglyphics and engravings, wonderful looking. One must buy an extra ticket specially for this particular tomb, its price is reasonable ( 80 LE i.e. approx. 4). Site personnel in charge of this tomb keep the place closed and locked and it is necessary to ask them for opening it, unfortunately they always ask for tips or start guiding and finally ask for payment. Anyhow, the place is very nice and worthwhile to visit, very recommendable.

Unbelievably good visit. Don't be turned off by the guards asking for money, just stand firm and say no, because it's worth it.
