The Pyramid of Menkaure located on the Giza Plateau in the southwestern outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. It is the smallest of the three main Pyramids of Giza. It was built to serve as the tomb of the fourth dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Menkaure and the construction probably started in 2510 BC. Menkaure's pyramid had an original height of 65.5 meters (215 feet). As a result of the removal of its outer casing and cape stone it now stands at 61 m (204 ft) tall with a base of 108.5 m (356 ft) In 1837, English army officer and engineer began excavations within the pyramid of Menkaure they found, in the main burial chamber of the pyramid, a large stone sarcophagus 8 feet (244 cm) long and 2 feet 11 inches (89 cm) in height, made of basalt. The sarcophagus was removed from the pyramid and was sent by ship to the British Museum in London, but the merchant ship Beatrice carrying it was lost after leaving port at Malta on October 13, 1838.
This is the third of the Giza Pyramids triad and also the smallest. It is said to have been built for Pharaoh Menkaure. This pyramid is much smaller than the other two as it is only 62mts in height today. As the Pharaoh died before it was completed, the structure was not completely finished. The bottom layer of stone has not even been polished smooth! The bottom layers were made of red granite, on top was the usual limestone covering. The unique part of this pyramid is the huge dent on one surface. This was apparently done by Sultan Uthman around 1195AD, when there was an attempt to destroy the pyramid. There are hardly any crowds here as it is quite a distance from the Khufu and Khafre pyramids. We wanted to go inside, but had been told that it was closed. Though you can enter all the 3 pyramids, the Pyramid of Khafre and the Pyramid of Menkaure are open on alternate days. While the Pyramid of Khufu is open everyday. Our guide told us that there is even less to see inside the Menkaure pyramid. It has no decorations, but it has 3 levels, one of which is very big. Please carry water, wear sunscreen, cotton clothes and a hat if possible to save yourself from the hot Sun.

It’s one of the oddest looking to There’s a large vertical “gash” above the entrance due to an attempt to demolish the pyramid by the second Ayyubid Sultan of Egypt, Al-Malik al-Aziz Uthman ibn Salah ad-Din Yusuf. I paid an extra fee to enter the tomb just so that I can say I entered one of the pyramids. To be honest, it’s a waste of money as there’s nothing to see, not even wall decorations. Like the nearby Pyramid of Khufu, this tomb is an amazing feat of engineering and it’s worth seeing, though not to enter.
Words can't even begin to describe the wonder of this monument. No wonder we haven't been able to come up with a suitable theory for their construction because everything about them is colossal! Absolutely amazing
This pyramid is Pharoah Menkaure's tomb. His wives tombs are behind this pyramid and smaller in size. You need to pay around 300 Egyptian pounds to go inside. Little away from the main Giza pyramids. You can take the camel ride here. A guide is a must to explain the details and also take some good snaps! Carry plenty of water and put on your walking shoes as you need to work out alot! Getting here early will help. You will need half a day at least to explore the entire Giza complex!
